2020's Best of Pin Cut Sew
Let me begin by thanking you all for following along with me this year! I hope this space has provided some inspiration, or at least a good and productive distraction for you throughout all the craziness of 2020. I work hard to provide valuable, authentic, educational sewing content here and I am honored that you devote some of your online time to Pin, Cut, Sew Studio.
If there is anything you’d like to see more of here, please let me know! More tutorials? More of my personal projects? More on garment sewing? More quilting? There’s truly not a genre of sewing that I don’t love, so I’m all ears!
This year, five blog posts proved more popular than all the others, so I’m compiling those for you here! I’m so proud of these posts and their projects, so I’m glad they are proving useful to others too.
Without further ado …

Secrets to Fabric Shopping at Hobby Lobby
This one took me by surprise! Apparently these tips are things most people did not know about shopping for fabric at Hobby Lobby, especially shopping for garment fabrics. I received lots of comments from people who had no idea that Hobby Lobby sells anything other than those nice novelty cottons, and it’s continued to be a popular post, so I’m thrilled to have helped some people out with good quality fabrics.

Quarantine Quilt: Beginner Scrap Quilting Series
When the lockdowns began, I turned to some quilt therapy and blogged a beginner friendly quilt series along the way. I had a several people join in and the series has remained popular ever since. I had so much fun making this quilt and am indeed cuddled up under it as I write this. If you’re wanting to learn to make a quilt from start to finish, this scrap quilt is a great way to learn!

DIY Dog Bandana Tutorial
Well, I’m not surprised this one landed in the top five! Who can resist a cute pet accessory? One of my readers, Molly, shared this idea with me and offered to let me share it with you and I’m so glad she did! This version slips on over your dog’s collar and it has a zip tie inside to keep it from bunching up. There are only a couple seams, so they’re very fast and easy to make.

Oversized Hot Pad Tutorial
Even though this post is less than a month old, it shot to the #2 most popular spot! My sister opened hers that I gave her for Christmas and said it’s the thing she’s always needed and never even knew it, ha! I’ve used mine a ton since I made it and can’t believe stores everywhere don’t sell them. These large casserole-sized hot pads are fun and easy to make and make excellent gifts. Using great novelty fabrics just enhances the fun.

Make a Better Mask
Well, this one isn’t a surprise. This was my first viral post. I wish it wouldn’t have been a mask pattern of all things that gave such a boost to my blog traffic, but here we are, LOL. I quite obviously wasn’t the only person looking for solutions to the uncomfortable mask problem, so I created an origami mask pattern. I’ve heard from many glasses wearers that this is the mask that doesn’t fog up their glasses, and hundreds of people have purchased this comfortable mask elastic through that link. If you’re still needing a better mask, look no further, go print the free pattern and get started!
I’m looking so forward to what’s coming to this little space in 2021! I’ll be kicking things off with tips for sewing room organization, so stay tuned for that next week!
I just spent my Christmas money on a big fabric order, which I’m super excited about. And I’ve tackled my mending basket while I wait for that to ship, so i’m busy in the sewing room as always.
I hope you all have a very Happy New Year!
Cheers :)
