Sewing Ruffled Hearts 4 Ways
February may give heart shaped projects so extra umph, but I say hearts are great any time of year! Especially hearts with ruffles :) I have not one, but FOUR ruffled heart sewing projects to share with you today! A pillow, a placemat, a coaster, or an ornament.
I started out making a heart shaped pillow with ruffles all the way around it, but once I got it to the final stuffing step, I realized how great it looked flat, as a table mat. So I kept it that way and made another version for a pillow instead. I made it to match my daughter’s room decor, and she loves it! Looks so cute on her bed.
Then I thought it would be super cute to make a mini version and maybe embroider some conversation-heart-style phrases on the. So I made a little heart coaster and then I stuffed one and added a hanger and made a little Valentines ornament while I was at it (this one ended up being my favorite of the bunch, and I have not put it away after Valentines Day — it’s gonna stay right where it is and make me smile).
I made a video tutorial for this project, of course! Several people have told me they’re afraid of ruffles, but you really don’t need to be. There are two different ways to make them, and one of those ways is very simple and non fussy, so I hope you’ll give it a try.
You can also purchase the printable version of this project in my shop, or on Etsy if you prefer. It includes pattern pieces for both sizes of the heart and full step by step instructions with photos.
I hope you enjoy this project and are inspired to try some ruffly hearts!
Happy Sewing :)
