What a great time to sew with your kids! All my sewing with kids posts in one place.
What crazy times these are for ALL of us! I hope you and your families are coping ok. We are homeschoolers already and my kids are tweens and teens now, so while it’s still been an upheaval, it hasn’t been as jolting for us as it has been for many others, I’m sure. If you are in the demographic of moms with little ones suddenly thrown into homeschooling and full time momming, possibly while still working, I am actively praying for you daily. Really. I am! You’re on my heart.
Before my husband left for a deployment a few years ago, I ran a home sewing studio where I taught kids to sew. I had over 80 kids come through my studio in the two states I did this in and as a result, I have a collection of posts on this blog just about sewing with kids! And what better time to get started sewing with your kids than right now?
I decided to round up those posts for you today and put them all here in one place. Sewing can be such therapy, as any sewist will tell you. So if you have anxious kiddos, or are struggling yourself, or if you have bored teenagers, sewing can help, I’m sure of it! At the end, I’ll post some links to supplies and kits you can order so you don’t even have to leave the house.

If you feel like you want to sew, but just don’t have materials at your fingertips, you can try one of these kits or panels. All of these are Prime, so they’ll arrive at your doorstep in a jiffy!
I hope all this gives you some inspiration and encouragement to sew with your kids during these next weeks of being at home! I think my main two tips for sewing with kids are: 1. Be very patient (this is supposed to be fun!) and 2. Release control. Don’t micromanage them, don’t get upset with they “waste” materials, let them try things their way, even if you know it will not work. This is how they learn. If you’re uncomfortable with any of those things, maybe hand them a bunch of scraps and materials to work with (even clothes from the giveaway pile!) and walk away while they experiment :)
Cheers!
Nikki
