Sew a Set of Reusable Fabric Bowl Covers

I have landed on the perfect gift to sew up for Christmas this year! I needed a good sewn gift idea that wasn’t fussy or time consuming and that most people would love to receive and these fabric bowl covers definitely fit that bill!

As always, I filmed a quick video tutorial for these reusable bowl covers for my YouTube channel, but you can also simply purchase the pattern from my shop, in which I have including pattern pieces for all three sizes, and thorough instructions with photos. You can grab that printable version here in my shop or over on Etsy if you prefer.

The video has soared to the top spot in my analytics over on YouTube, so it’s clear that this is something lots of people are wanting to make! I was determined to make these bowl covers with NO fussy elements, like circular hems, or difficult bias tape casings. I landed on a very simple method for reversible bowl covers — so they use two coordinating fabrics, and the top stitching creates the elastic casing — so easy.

Why Fabric Bowl Covers?

Let me count the reasons …

  • They are super cute ;)

  • They are a sustainable alternative to plastic cling wrap.

  • They can be used for proofing sourdough, or other fermenting projects.

  • They can be used to keep your Kitchen Aid bowl covered so it doesn’t have crumbs and dust in it when you go to use it!

  • They even fit on your Instant Pot container.

  • They are the BEST for pot lucks or otherwise carting food places so you don’t have to keep track of your one messy piece of cling wrap or tin foil.

  • They can keep flies out of your food when serving it outside.

These bowl covers turned out to also be a GREAT stash busting project! The most fun part for me was choosing some coordinating fabrics. Since they’re two sides, they just look so cute when stacked together and it’s going to be so much fun picking out fabrics for each set I play to sew up for my family members this Christmas.

What Size for What Bowl?

I would say if you only want to make on cover, make the largest one. It fits almost all my medium and large bowls, the mixer bowl and my InstantPot container.

But if you have a specific bowl you need to cover, here’s a handy little chart to help you choose.

I hope you love this project! Don’t forget to watch the tutorial and to grab the pattern from my shop or on Etsy!

Cheers and Happy Sewing :)
