It's Star Wars Day!! May the 4th Be With You
I just sat here pondering what I could share for Star Wars Day and it only took a minute to realize I’ve made a handful of Star Wars related things over his last year or two, so it wasn’t hard at all to sit down and write a post in honor of Star Wars Day!
I am a Star Wars fan by marriage, but my kids are fans by birth, ha! My husband is the serious kind of fan, the kind who talks about “the canon” and reads the books and is disappointed in what Disney did to the whole thing.
Anyway, in honor of My the 4th, here is some Star Wars sewing inspiration for you!

First up, I made my husband some reusable coffee sleeves for Christmas and wrote a tutorial for them earlier this year. The Star Wars one is his favorite and he literally uses these every day when he gets his iced white mocha on his way to work. If you make some, be sure and choose a fabric with a small print so it doesn’t get lost on a small project like this (this fabric is so awesome!!!)
Next up, my husband came home from some trip or other with a pair of Star Wars socks and asked for a sock monkey with them. We call him BB-Ape and he lives in our room and makes us laugh. I now argue that a sock monkey makes the perfect gift for absolutely anyone of any age because there are literally socks for all interests. I have a full video tutorial for these guys on my YouTube channel. They’re really easy and fun to make!
Remember when buying socks for sock monkeys, that the toe becomes the head, so some directional designs will end up upside down. If you’re wanting some Star Wars socks to make one, these would work!
Ok next, I finally finished this super awesome paper pieced At-At. This is a free pattern! I absolutely love paper piecing, I find the puzzle of it just really, really fun. At first I thought I’d turn this into a pillow or something, but it’s so beautiful and was so much work, I decided to frame it instead. We have some pretty cool Star Wars art from some talented Etsy artists in our family room already, so this fits right in on the mantle down here. My husband loves this and so do I.
Backing up a bit, I made my daughter a girlie Storm Trooper costume for Halloween two years ago. I made a circle skirt from white costume satin and then just used felt for the rest. She wore a black shirt and leggings and I just made a felt vest, wrist bands, a mask, etc … She looked so cool. For a whole huge post about all the costumes I’ve made over the years, click here! She wants to have a Princes Leia photo shoot for Star Wars Day, so I’ll keep you posted on how that goes, lol.
Lastly, I wrote an entire post about sewing Star Wars awhile back! Lots of tutorials, patterns, fabric links and inspiration. Click here for that. If you’re aware of any new Star Wars sewing patterns or ideas, please let me know! Perhaps I’ll write a "Sewing Star Wars, Part 2” post :)
