Fall Sewing Inspiration
I realize that for those of you in the southern hemisphere, Fall is not really on your mind, but here in the U.S., it has certainly arrived! I live in the south now, but the weather has still cooled down and I got to wear long sleeves and jeans one day last week, so I’m feeling some Fall sewing projects coming on!
Here is some Fall sewing inspiration for you. Hopefully it gets you in the cozy sewing mood :)
Fall scarves are my favorite thing! I have a handful of infinity scarves that I wrote a tutorial for last year and they get constant wear in the colder seasons. Check out my post on how to make a circle scarf and also my post about choosing fabrics for circle scarves. I grabbed a remnant of flannel last week that’s waiting to be turned into one!
These pumpkin coasters are so cute and would be a great scrap buster.
I’m a huge fan of throw blankets, but they sure can be pricey. I don’t have time to knit or chrochet them, so I love tutorials like this one for flannel throw blankets. I think these would make great gifts too, even for those hard-to-shop-for teens.
I added a couple of Fall vests to my wardrobe last year and they got quite a bit of wear. Here is a post I wrote on the best Fall vest patterns to try. Also, here is my sherpa vest post with details and tips on working with those tricky fabrics.
Cardigans are a given when the weather turns cooler! For me, cardigans are a given any time of year, because I am never not in danger of being cold, haha. My most sewn cardigan pattern is definitely the Blackwood Cardigan by Helen’s closet. This year, I’m going to try Jalie’s Drop Pocket cardigan and I recently added Simplicity 8393 to my collection to try. I have a thin black rayon sweater knit that’s perfect for that last one.
Pumpkin decor in the Fall will never go out of style! Have you seen these super cute pumpkins at Target?? Or these ones??? To make your own, I like this tutorial the best. I resisted buying the Target ones (though I still might), and plan to make a couple of these in very modern fabrics like rich colors of linen. Ooh, or velvet.
The throw pillows on my couch are already pretty Fallish, but if you want to update your pillows for Fall without making and storing whole new pillows, check out my hack for sewing seasonal pillow covers.
Are you planning any Fall sewing? Right now, I have one last shirt for myself on my cutting table, then I’m going to get started with my kids’ Halloween costumes. Hopefully I’ll have time to squeeze some of these cute pumpkins in too, though!
